Something Uncharacteristic that I love nevertheless.

These are dolls. The doll on the right is my uncle's doll from when he was a wee child, before he got Tudley, the giant 1930s panda. He is wearing my uncle's and mother's baby clothes. the other doll is celluloid, but she has a mechanism by which she can turn her head as she walks. She is wearing a dress made from cloth from a flour sack and my mother's baby silk kimono. I can scarcely imagine how my mother could have been so small, or how they could have gotten such a delicate garment on the awful prairie. Nevertheless, that is the story. The brown dog behind them was in my crib when I was born. My cousin Peter made the green stegosaurus for my grandmother. The small gnome belonged to my grandmother also, and you have met my dear Biddo and Eyeore, as well as big Sevvie, I trust.

  • So true. That type of doll is not what I would expect to see in your collection... except for the fact that their history makes them so important to you. :)
